Back to School Tips for Children with Hearing Loss

Back to School Tips for Children with Hearing Loss

As children head back to school, parents naturally want to set them up for success in the classroom and beyond.

At Audiology Medical Services, we understand that children’s hearing loss can impact communication, confidence, learning, and even behaviour. Frustration from missed sounds or unclear speech can lead to classroom withdrawal or disruptive behaviour, often misunderstood by teachers and peers.

Waiting for a diagnosis can be an emotional time for parents. That’s why our audiology team is committed to supporting you and your child through every step of the journey. During your initial consultation, we’ll take the time to listen to your concerns, gently introduce the process to your child, and explain each step to ease anxiety.

We offer a full range of paediatric hearing assessments, including Play Audiometry, Visual Response Audiometry, Tympanometry, and Speech-in-Noise Testing. Following the assessment, we’ll go over the results thoroughly and give you plenty of time to ask questions. From there, we’ll recommend the most appropriate treatment and create a personalised Diagnostic Management Plan tailored to your child’s specific needs. This may include referrals to ENT specialists or Speech & Language Therapists, ensuring a comprehensive support network.

If hearing aids are recommended, modern devices are discreet, comfortable, and highly effective and represent a powerful step toward improving your child’s quality of life

Signs Your Child May Need a Hearing Test

Consider booking a hearing test if your child:

  2. Frequent ear infections
  3. Failure to startle at loud noises
  4. Delayed speech development
  5. He/she does not always respond when called
  6. Displaying inattentive or withdrawn behaviour at school
  7. Repeatedly asks for things to be repeated
  8. Consistently turns one ear towards the source of noise

Let us help your child hear, learn, and thrive this year.
